A-Rod, a deserving MVP

ArodEarlier this week, Alex Rodriguez won the American League MVP, beating Boston DH David Ortiz. Although Beantowners would argue otherwise, Rodriguez is completely deserving of the award. First of all, the Yankees won the AL East for the 8th straight year, winning over the hapless Red Sox, AGAIN. The Yankee 3rd baseman played in the field, very effectively, I might add, while Ortiz sat on the bench for half of the game. Now, the whinny New Englanders say that their man was a better clutch hitter than A-Rod. Well, last time I checked, a run in the first inning counts for just as much as a run in the 9th. However, it’s the pure stats that make Alex the MVP. Rodriguez hit .320 over Ortiz’s .300, with a higher OBP and SLG. He also outhomered the hefty DH by 1. A-Rod’s stats are even more amazing when you consider that Yankee Stadium is a bad hitters park for righties. Ortiz, on the other hand, played in a hitters paradise, as Fenway Park’s short porch in right and shallow left field made David’s opposite-field pop-ups into doubles (if he could waddle fast enough into second base) and homers. So there you have it, A-Rod is the MVP, and Yankee fans should show him some respect because of it.
